N.H.S COMPLAINTS PROCEDURE , CONFIDENCE TRICKSTERS OR WHAT ? The Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital NHS Trust After the death of our son Thomas Andrew Beardmore (died at the age of 16 months) We asked questions under the complaints procedure, in our ignorance we expected the Trust to answer our questions regarding the events leading to his death on 17.2.95 When the trust sent us a 12 page response, we found that not only had they not given Answers to our questions, but they had distorted the questions that were asked. We were informed on 17.2.95 that our son was brain dead and they wanted to turn off The life support. On the information that our son was brain dead we agreed to them Turning off the ventilator. This was the biggest mistake of our life, we now have evidence that the doctors could Not know that Thomas was brain dead, we found to our horror that no brain death test's had been done, this we can substantiate with expert opinion after inspecting the Medical records. When we asked the trust why our questions were distorted, and informed them that they Had made gross misrepresentations as a result of the distortions of our questions they Then said in July 99 that brain death was never advanced to us!???? The trust was unaware that we had a letter that states the doctor's reasons for meeting With us on the morning of 17.2.95. This was pointed out to the trust, they ignored anything that we put to them, they will Not look at the evidence we have, they know that if they look at the evidence, they Would have to admit, that an investigation is needed, could it be that the death of our Son could in fact be a case of manslaughter? Why were the correct procedures not Carried out, why were we told lies, why would the Coroner not investigate why no Inquest, despite all the evidence that we have, could it be a cover up, why was the Regional health not listening to what we were saying, why did the Secretary of state For Health tell us to go through the complaints procedure, when it was known that the System was flawed, why then did the Coroner decide to go to the police and say that We were making allegations of Murder, which may we add was complete and utter Rubbish, at no time did we ever say that anything improper happened to our son, what We are saying is that the correct procedure was never carried out regarding, criteria To establish brain stem death, the doctors were wrong to tell us that Thomas was Brain dead, (one of the experts has written in her report "that it was not possible to Say at this time that he was brain dead" The Consultant that gave us this report is Also an Home Office Pathologist, who is trained in law. The next report was in fact commissioned for H,M, Coroner,??????? This report clearly states that the medical staff would have to be certain that brain Death had taken place, before turning the machine off, after further investigations by Us we are sure that the only way to be certain of brain death, would in fact be the test That was never carried out. The horrors we have had to endure will be told in further links, ie. The hospital stole And disposed of our son's tissue/organs without our consent etc.etc.etc. Tom & Janet Beardmore
