Comment by Mr Don Aston on Doctors Playing God By Don Aston
" Unfortunately newspaper reports of this case were misleading
probably because the trial went on so long and journalists attended
only intermittently. The CPS certainly charged Dr Moor with having
administered a massive overdose of diamorphine to his patient, Mr
George Liddell, who was acknowledged to be very near death. However
the pathological/toxicological evidence on which the charge was based
was ruled inadmissible by the judge because of its poor quality. Thus
only Dr Moors evidence was admitted and this showed he gave only
palliative doses well within the guidelines of any of the standard
sources available to doctors prescribing in terminal care,
inconsistent as these are. "
