ACCESSING YOUR OWN MEDICAL RECORDS The most common question we have on NHS Exposed is "how do we access our health records". The method is very simple. a) Write a letter to your GP or your Consultant / Trust stating the Access to Health Records Act 1990. Stipulate that you wish all medical records on file and computer which includes all results and observation / drug charts. Some Trusts may charge for photocopying and prices vary. b) If the Trust or your doctor fails to disclose your medical records, you may write to the Data Protection Commissioner who will investigate your complaint. Information Line: 01625 545 745 Postal address c) If the Data Protection Commissioner fails then you are free to claim for your records in court. You are entitled to claim for them under the Access to Health records act in your local court. You may seek legal advice or it is possible to carry this out yourself. Your local court will have a claim form pack. Please see MATERIALS OF USE a)
