Dr Saher Sadek Beats The Medical Protection Society UK Litigant in Person extraordinaire Dr Saher Sadek kicked the backside of the Medical Protection Society UK through all the courts in the land. The Medical Protection Society is a defence union for doctors. Dr Stephanie Bown representative of the Medical Protection Society in the case of Sadek also failed to raise the concerns regarding the neglect of many patients on Ward 87 City General Hospital Stoke on Trent. Dr Bown also failed to represent me adequately passing the "buck" to the BMA who attempted to pass the "buck back". They though funded Dr Skidmore to the House of Lords. We would all like to know whether Skidmore was innocent or guilty. Skidmore is of course a white caucasian doctor. When the MPS was asked for a ethnic breakdown of the numbers of doctors they represent, they refused to provide the data. The Medical Protection Society also managed to find the funds to represent their infamous member Dr Harold Shipman, another white caucasian doctor with a previous drug habit. Normally, the defence unions do not represent cases in defamation but nevertheless, they hired William Bennett libel barrister to attack Mr Paul Heathcote (writer on NHS Exposed) for an article he had written on his case. It is important to note that whistleblowers are unlikely to be represented by this defence union but serial killers are represented with the best barristers. It seems that towing the party line is the key to being represented by the Medical Protection Society. Dr Saher Sadek though was not represented by the MPS and he sought to seek a ruling that defence unions can be sued in the Employment Tribunals. He then sought to seek justice in the courts. As a litigant in person, he managed to beat Mr David Pannick QC (reputed to charge £1000 per hour). Chambers 2007 states" David Pannick is still at the top – he is untouchable as the supreme advocate of his generation.” (Chambers UK 2007). David Pannick was asked about Saher Sadek but he felt he had "no time" to answer the questions. Pannick QC was instructed by none other than Radcliffes Le Brasseur. Their motto is " a balanced legal solution". As you can observe Radcliffes who is hired by all defence unions could not find a balanced solution for Dr Sadek. Irritated at having lost to an LIP, they hired the biggest and best barristers. If all MPS members wish to know where their membership money went, now you know. Its gone into Pannick QC's piggiebank. Dr Stephanie Bown languishes at the MPS as Director of Education and Communications and spends her spare time as Vice President of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine. The General Medical Council allowed her her freedom despite the fact she failed to report the neglect on Ward 87 City General Hospital to them. Anyhow, who really cares about the manner in which Stephanie Bown treats members of the MPS or her conduct in whistleblowing cases?. She still commands the respect of her peers - my comment is this - nice suit, shame about the rest. Heaven only knows what she is doing in a respected organisation like the Faculty of Legal Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians. One can only speculate that they are unaware of her links with a number of us controversial doctors. In conclusion, only the sharp suit counts. Click here to make your fashion statement in the medical profession like Dr Bown . You too can rise to the top. Of course, this is not the first time the MPS and their lawyers in tow have been shamed by an LIP. Many years ago, in a land far far away - Sheffield actually - The MPS and Radcliffes took on Mr Paul Heathcote. They blustered into court with reams of legal books quoting case law at every juncture full of confidence they would win. Mr Heathcote told William Bennett Libel barrister " Well, you may know the law but I have the facts". It is safe to say that the MPS lost to Mr Paul Heathcote. Justice Eady was extremely impressed by Heathcote's down to earth presentation delivered with good humour and style. The question here is does the Medical Protection Society really "protect" doctors?
