Personally Identifiable Information
By default NHS Exposed does not collect any personally identifiable
information about visitors to our web site. Our web server, as with
all web servers, automatically logs the dates and times at which web
pages are served to our visitors, together with the requesting IP
address and HTTP_REFERER information, if available. This information
does not personally identify our visitors, but is used in aggregated
form to analyse the way in which our visitors use the web site. In
turn, this helps us to improve the site and provide a better service
for our visitors. NHS Exposed may, from time to time, share this
aggregated information with our partners and advertisers. However,
this aggregated information can in no way be used to identify any
individual visitor.
Cookies
Cookies are small pieces of data that a web site stores on a visitor's
computer, allowing the web site owners to better understand the way in
which their visitors interact with the site. At present the NHS
Exposed web site itself does not use cookies in any form. However,
some of our advertising partners and other associated web sites may
use cookies to monitor the effectiveness of their advertising
campaigns etc. This use is entirely beyond the control of NHS Exposed.
If our users have concerns with regard to the way these cookies may be
used, we suggest they consult our partners' privacy policies at the
links below.
Voluntary Provision of Personally Identifiable
Information
NHS Exposed operates a message board for the convenience of our
visitors. Posters to the message board may, if they wish, disclose
their names and email addresses within their postings. However, this
information is not required in order to use the message board service.
Disclosure of an email address when posting a message is optional, and
although the message board requires that a name be given at that time,
the user is at liberty to use a pseudonym for this purpose if they
wish.
As an exception to this situation, NHS Exposed requires that medical
professionals wishing to provide medical advice in message board
postings must provide us with their name and proof of their
professional qualifications (for example their General Medical Council
registration number). This measure ensures the safety of our users;
the information will not be disclosed or passed on to a third party
except as outlined below.
Email Addresses
NHS Exposed receives a high volume of email messages from our users,
advertising partners and other sources. These messages, together with
the sender's details, are archived for our records. NHS Exposed does
not use the information given in these email messages for any purpose
other than the sender's original purpose in communicating with us. In
particular, we do not use these email addresses for marketing or
promotional purposes. Furthermore, they will not be disclosed or
passed on to a third party except as outlined below.
NHS Exposed operates an "email to friend" feature,
allowing our visitors to email links to our site's content directly
from our web site. Use of this feature requires our visitor to provide
both their, and their friend's, name and email address. As with all
data processed by our web server, this information is logged. However,
NHS Exposed makes no direct use of this information other than to
assess the usefulness of this aspect of our web site. Again, this
information will not be disclosed or passed on to a third party as
outlined below.
From time to time, and at our discretion, NHS Exposed may operate an
email-based newsletter service to inform interested guest of updates
to our web site. In order to partake of this service, visitors must
provide NHS Exposed with a valid email address and consent to
receiving our newsletter. Subscribers to such a newsletter may
unsubscribe at any time by visiting our web site and removing their
email address from our mailing list. NHS Exposed does not use the
subscriber's email address for any purpose other than the provision of
our newsletter. Nor does NHS Exposed disclose or pass this information
on to any third party except as outlined below.
Access / Correction / Updates to Personal
Information
NHS Exposed is always happy to confirm what, if any, personally
identifiable information is held about any of our visitors. In the
event that any personally identifiable information that we hold about
our visitors is incorrect or obsolete, NHS Exposed will, upon receipt
of notification of the inaccuracy, endeavour to correct this
information as soon as possible.
Notification of Changes
If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes
on our Homepage so our users are always aware of what information we
collect, how we use it, and under circumstances, if any, we disclose
it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable
information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was
collected, we will notify users by way of an email. Users will have a
choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different
manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy
under which the information was collected.
Disclosure of Information
NHS Exposed may share information about our visitors with advertisers,
business partners, sponsors, and other third parties. However, we only
divulge aggregate information about our users and will not share
personally identifiable information with any third party without that
user's express consent. For example, we may disclose how many pages of
our web site are viewed, per visit, by the average visitor. We will,
however, release specific personal information about our visitors if
required to do so in order to comply with any valid legal process such
as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order.
